GLOOP, the company making edible cutlery to eliminate single-use plastic

The fight against plastic continues, and more and more initiatives are emerging to achieve the goal of eliminating it. Such is the case of the startup Gloop, which manufactures edible, sustainable and vegan straws and spoons with the aim of eliminating single-use plastic in an innovative and fun way.

Gloop was founded in 2020 when its founders Hernán Hernández and Marta Maneja decided to look for an alternative to plastic. After exploring many options, they came up with an idea that seemed perfect: edible cutlery. "We saw that these innovative and sustainable products, just what we were looking for," explains Hernández.

Since then, more than 120 establishments have placed their trust in Gloop and are committed to sustainability, many businesses say that the level of customer satisfaction has increased and that incorporating these new products in their premises has even resulted in media attention for their business.

In 2022 alone, GLOOP has managed to avoid 8,000 kg of plastic and 7,800 kg of CO2.

Their product range consists of edible spoons, straws and coffee stirrers.

The spoons are available in 2 flavours: chocolate and oatmeal.

The straws are available in 5 flavours: chocolate, oatmeal, strawberry, lemon and mint.

And finally the stirrers are available in chocolate flavour.

In addition, the products are suitable for vegans and there are also options for coeliacs.

The company specialises in the Horeca sector, which is undoubtedly a growing market due to the Plastics Law that prohibits the use of single-use plastics.
