Travel Without Plastic
Consultancy Projects

A diverse industry requires diverse solutions.  We work collaboratively with businesses and organisations to find the right approach for their specific circumstances.

Since 2017, we've created a range of personalised toolkits and guidance documents for hotel companies and tour operators and have project managed a number of destination based initiatives.

Plastic Free Laos

Plastic Free Laos was created to address the consumption of single-use plastic in tourism and hospitality businesses in the region as part of the RELATED project.  TWP created detailed handbooks for accommodation and hospitality providers, supported the creation of the requirements to meet the Plastic Free Laos standard and delivered Train the Trainer workshops in the destination in 2019.

I have had the good fortune to work closely with Travel without Plastic in our collaboration in Laos. Travel without Plastic helped us develop the Plastic Free Laos Label for hospitality businesses. As a certification scheme, the Plastic Free Laos Label provides guidelines and serves as an incentive to assist hotels and restaurants to reduce their single use plastic consumption.

The work that Travel without Plastic has delivered is of excellent quality. I was impressed their deep understanding of the hospitality sector and their extensive experience in sustainability as well as health and safety. These assets make their recommendations and solutions highly practical and relevant to hospitality businesses in Laos. The implementation handbooks for hotels and restaurants are exceptionally comprehensive with engaging illustrations. The monitoring tool and communication materials are well designed. The Plastic Free Laos Label is currently managed by our local partner with regular exchanges with the Travel Without Plastic experts.

The aim of the joint project is to reduce the amount of tourism-related plastic waste in the Balearic Islands and to improve the recycling process and rate.

Following a preliminary study pilot measures were developed and will be tested together with the participating hotels, representatives of the tour operators, local NGOs and Balearic waste management authorities. Specific programs to reduce plastic waste and improve recycling around ports will be developed in collaboration with cruise lines and ports.

The expert knowledge and competence in advising hotels on reducing single-use plastic that TWP has brought into our collaboration has been one of the biggest success factors in our joint project “Plastic-Free Holidays” on the Balearic Islands. Especially their practical viewpoint on how improvements can be made without compromising guest satisfaction or operative procedures in a hotel has been most valuable'
