Bankground Farm is idyllically situated in 60 acres of breathtaking Lake District countryside.  

A working farm set off the beaten track, their self-catering cottages all enjoy a stunning lake view whilst B&B guests are catered for in a Grade II listed 15th century farm house. 

 

Ideally situated for walking, mountain biking and water sports, or just perfect for a lazy day relaxing in beautiful landscapes, perhaps with a visit to the café and farm shop thrown in for good measure. 

 

Where single-use plastic has no place

Over the last few years the farm’s owners have tried their best both at home and in the business to reduce the use of unnecessary single-use plastic.  Initiatives include changing from regularly packaged toilet and kitchen rolls to bulk packaged options which reduces the overall volume of plastic packaging. 

Having a heat and moisture-controlled composter on site means we have been able to successfully implement compostable take-away plates, cups, bags and utensils for our picnics and we use compostable baking paper and cup-cake bases in the kitchen. 

All the products stocked in the farm shop are plastic free or compostable items like toothbrushes together with natural toothpaste and soap bars.  They’ve worked with Funky Soaps in London to create their own branded shampoo bars which are also just as good for handwashing and showering.  Even the children’s play area is made from natural willow structures and wooden swings rather than a plastic playground.

 

We live in a beautiful part of the world and we want to do our best to keep it that way.  We have never felt that single-use plastic has a place in our business and it’s encouraging to see how many other hotels and accommodation providers are looking into the alternatives.  We know our guests appreciate it and we’ll continue to make it a core ethic of our business.
